On the JJ Barnes Blog, I share my struggles with having a very floofy dog, and the best vacuum cleaner for dog hair that I’ve been able to find!
We adopted Mollydog back in 2018. She’s a foolish, cuddly, funny Springer Spaniel, who is incredibly gentle with the children, loves us with the kind of pure loyalty that only a dog can muster, and would trade her soul for a piece of cheese.
She’s also floofy, and she sheds her floof liberally and without care. Everywhere.
Trying To Deal With Dog Hair
Molly hair gets everywhere. To try and combat the influx of floof, I bought a genuinely good deshedding dog brush that pulls a lot of the loose hairs out so I can bag it and bin it before it tumbles out across my floor. I get the girls to brush her as one of their chores, and it works very well. She gets a fuss, they get a job to do, and less hair manages to clog up my vacuum cleaner.
One time I hired a mobile dog groomer to try and get her wild mane under control, but she was so distressed by the experience that the woman couldn’t finish the job, and the hair wasn’t brought under control despite the effort.
Try as I might, dog floof is still there. So it comes down to getting the right vacuum cleaner to deal with it.
Finding The Right Vacuum Cleaner
I’ve tried dealing with dog hair by way of vacuum cleaner so many times over the years. I’ve had upright vacuums, wireless vacuums, cylinder vacuums. I’ve had named brands, I’ve had cheap shops own brands. I’ve vacuumed and I have cursed, as time and time again they either don’t suck it up very well, or they get so clogged up that I spend my life taking the things apart, or they eventually die from the effort.
Now, as I am not a fan of housework, I can assure you that this constant work for little result has left me in a very cranky mood on many occasions.
I needed to find the best vacuum cleaner for dog hair. So I did my research.
Shark Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner
My mother-in-law assured me the business would be done best by a cylinder vacuum cleaner, and as I am smart enough to know not to question her wisdom, I decided to go shopping for one of those. Then, I looked at reviews for different brands and how they work with dog hair.
The Shark lightweight CZ250UKTDB, Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner had a lot of positive reviews for using on dog hair, and, with a little trepidation because it wasn’t a cheap investment, I bought one. And I am so glad that I did!
It has a powerful suction that can easily pick up pet hair, and it also has a self-cleaning brushroll that prevents hair from getting tangled. Additionally, the vacuum cleaner has a HEPA filter that traps allergens, making it a good choice for homes with pets and people with allergies.
It’s not too heavy so I can carry it up and down the stairs, and my girls find it easy to move about when I send them on vacuuming duty for their bedroom. It’s really easy to empty into the bin outside, and I’ve never had to declog the tube of Molly’s sheddings.
Conclusion
I still hate housework. But I also still love my daft dog. Therefore, if you’re in a similar situation and are always on the look out for a vacuum that can tackle the challenge, the Shark lightweight CZ250UKTDB, Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner one has worked out very well for me!
