Despite being born and raised in Britain, I don’t think I have seen enough of it yet, and I definitely want to take my children on adventures around their country. Over the years I’ve been fortunate enough to see some of the most beautiful and varied locations, from the bustling and energetic Liverpool city to the quiet, openness of the Welsh valleys, and the best arcades in London, but I can’t decide where I should be heading to next.

To help me out, the experts at caravan insurance experts InsureMy, sent over their research into the top ten destinations and attractions we should be visiting in Britain, based on analysed hashtags on Instagram.

The Lake District

Britain’s most Instagrammable destination is The Lake District, with #lakedistrict surpassing over 4.9 million posts on Instagram.

The Lake District is a mountainous region in North West Engalnd, known for its staggering landscape, including lakes, mountains, and woodlands.

There are 16 officially recognized lakes in the Lake District, and the largest is Windermere which I have been to and can confirm it’s a stunning place. The lakes are encircled by mountains, the most noteworthy of which is Scafell Pike, which is 978 meters (3,209 feet) tall.

Grizedale Forest, one of the numerous forests in the Lake District, is a popular camping, hiking, and biking destination. While I’m not a fan of camping, I do love to take my children and dog on adventures in woodlands, so this Grizedale Forest is going on the list!

The London Eye

The second most Instagrammable attraction is the London Eye. There are currently more than 3.4 million posts using #londoneye on Instagram. The London Eye, on the South Bank of the River Thames, is an iconic representation of London and, therefore, a popular post for Instagram users worldwide when visiting. It is the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe, and the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom.

The London Eye was built in 1999 to celebrate the new millennium and despite having been to London several times since then, I’ve never been on the London Eye! It has 32 capsules, each of which can hold up to 25 people which rotate slowly, giving passengers a 360-degree view of London.

A ride on the London Eye takes about 30 minutes and gives you the chance to spot the major landmarks of London, including Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, and the Tower of London. On a clear day, you can also see as far as Windsor Castle and the Olympic Park.

Big Ben

Big Ben is Britain’s third most Instagrammable attraction, with over 3.3 million hashtags on the platform for #bigben. Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the striking clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London, named after Sir Benjamin Hall, who was the Commissioner of Works at the time of its installation.

The clock tower is 96 meters (315 feet) tall and is made of Portland stone. It has four clock faces, each of which is 7 meters (23 feet) in diameter. The clock is one of the most famous in the world and appears in loads of different films and books, and I’ve been lucky enough to see it myself.

The Cotswolds

The Cotswolds is the fourth most Instagrammable destination in Britain, with #cotswolds surpassing over 2.4 million posts on Instagram. The traditional English landscapes and stone walls, make it a popular wedding destination as well as for tourism, with #cotswoldswedding raking in 102,000 Instagram posts.

The Peak District

The Peak District is the fifth most Instagrammable destination, with 2.1 million #peakdistrict posts on Instagram. The Peak District national park is known for its natural beauty, with an abundance of lakes and waterfalls popular with swimmers, making a picture-perfect Instagram post.

New Forest

New Forest is Britain’s sixth most Instagrammable destination, with #newforest receiving just over 1.8 million Instagram posts. The national park is famous for its unique pony breeds, the New Forest Ponies, which contributes to its placement on this list with lots of pony photos accompanying the park’s beautiful landscape.

Buckingham Palace

With 1.8 million #buckinghampalace posts on Instagram, Buckingham Palace is Britain’s seventh most Instagrammable attraction. Many of these posts commemorate the late Queen Elizabeth, and selfies in front of the gates are always popular, so the home of the royal monarch was sure to be on this list.

Snowdonia

Britain’s eighth most Instagrammable destination is Snowdonia, with #snowdonia having a total of over 1.2 million Instagram posts. Many of these posts display the mountainous region, with users also posting themselves on the mountain peaks at sunrise.

Dartmoor

Dartmoor national park places ninth as the most Instagrammable attraction in Britain with over 1,095,000 million posts, with users posting pictures of the standing stones, which are stones preserved from historic times. y family used to go on holidays to Dartmoor regularly when I was little, so I have very fond memories… but this was many many years before Instagram.

Isle of Skye

Scotland’s Isle of Skye finishes the list as the tenth most Instagrammable with over 993,000 posts. Instagram users post captions and uploads of the Isle of Skye, and the fairy pools, natural small waterfalls with aqua blue water streaming down, are always popular.

Traveling In Britain

An InsureMy spokesperson explained that the ongoing cost of living crisis means many people are choosing to stay in Britain for their holidays rather than traveling abroad.

The top ten list has something suitable for everybody, whether you love hiking in beautiful countryside, or busy city adventures. Traveling in Britain offers a harmonious blend of cultural significance, historical importance, and natural splendour, and I am excited to see more of my wonderful country.
