On the JJ Barnes Blog, in time for the return of Emily In Paris, I checked out research from experts at New Casino who discovered what it would cost for me, and you, to live Emily’s life.

Emily In Paris

While Netflix has annoucned an abundance of shows to be released in December, there’s one in particular that many subscribers will be excited for. After a year of waiting, the huge hit Emily In Paris, is back on 21st December!

In the series, we see Emily Cooper flaunting her expensive clothing, dining out, and attending extravagant events for her work as a marketing executive. It truly looks fabulous, and something many of us would dream of experiencing. However, it poses the question of whether this lifestyle is in fact attainable with her occupation… or mine.

Experts at New Casinos analysed Emily’s lifestyle to determine her annual spending in comprison to her salary, which is estimated to be €45,251 (£39,063.65), and converted the costs from euros to British pounds.

Emily’s Fashion In Paris

American expat Emily is a big spender when it comes to her clothes, with this being her most expensive habit. Based on the prices of some of the fabulous clothing that we see her wearing on the streets of Paris, Emily is estimated to spend £63,853.73 annually on clothes and accessories.

From Valentino to Prada, Christian Louboutin to Balmain, Emily sports a variety of luxury brands. One of her more expensive pieces is the Vassilis Zoulias yellow printed jacket that she is seen wearing in the fourth episode of season two, which comes with a price tag of £44,889.83.

Emily’s Rent In Paris

Emily annual rent at the Place de l’Estrapade in the 5th arrondissement comes in at around £27,545.09, which is a staggering amount considering that leaves her just £11,518.56 left for the whole year to cover other expenses. It’s no surprise that she has to splurge on her apartment though, given that it is right near the Pantheon – one of Paris’s major attractions.

Emily’s Bills In Paris

Utility bills are another essential yet pricey expense for Emily, totaling to £1,972.60 a year. So, given the price of both rent and utilities, you would imagine that there’s not much more room for spending, but we know that isn’t so.

Emily’s Hobbies In Paris

Emily takes full advantage of the wonderful food and drink that Paris is known for, frequently dining out in restaurants around the city. Assuming she enjoy this hobby twice a week, this makes it her third most expensive habit at a total spend around £2,693.39 a year.

Often seen grabbing a cup of coffee, most likely to keep her going through her hectic schedule, Emily racks up an annual bill of £189.57, based on the average price of a regular cappuccino in the city, and assuming that she indulges once daily for five days a week.

Exploring the nightlife of Paris is another one of Emily’s many hobbies, usually accompanied by Mindy or Camille. However, it’s expected that Emily spends £1,077.36 keeping up with this hobby over an annual period of two cocktails a week.

Emily’s Travel In Paris

The marketing executive once revealed to Camille how she got lost using the Metro, which is the cheapest, easiest, and quickest way to travel around Paris. In an attempt to avoid getting lost again, we see Emily use taxis to get around instead – costing her £2,450.98 a year on transport.

The Cost Of Emily’s Lifestyle In Paris

In total, experts at New Casinos believe that Emily spends £99,782.72 a year to maintain her lavish lifestyle, which is precisely £60,719.07 over her annual income.

“When it comes to our favourite fiction TV shows, we sometimes have to remind ourselves that it isn’t a reality,” said a spokesperson from New Casinos. “Emily in Paris is a show in which extravagance is at the core but it’s interesting to see just how unrealistic the luxurious living of Emily is. The findings are a friendly reminder that her lifestyle isn’t exactly one to admire, given that her salary doesn’t cover half of her spending.”
