Cutting My Legs When Shaving

I’m so very clumsy. I trip over things, routinely bump into doorframes, and injure myself in increasingly strange and creative ways. The burns and bruises I sustain just trying to exist in the world are numerous and painful. So, therefore, it is probably no surprise that when I do bother to shave my legs, it’s pretty much guaranteed I’ll end up with blood pouring down my skin while I wail in agony and frustration.

Because I’m sick of hurting myself, I decided I need to take steps. There’s little to no chance I can suddenly get better control of my body, it’s been nearly 40 years and I’m still as accident prone as ever, I decided to investigate alternative options!

Being Fluffy

In my teens and twenties I’d have been horrified at the idea of letting myself get fluffy. However, since I had something of a feminist revelation, if he can be hairy why can’t I etc, I’m significantly more comfortable with it. I’m an adult woman, adult women grow body hair, thus I have body hair.

It’s also a healthy message to pass on to my daughters. I don’t want them thinking there is anything unnatural about their developing bodies, so why would I try and indicate there’s anything wrong with my developed body?

However… I’m not THAT good a feminist. I also really like having smooth legs, and even if I develop quite a Winter pelt when I’m encased in tights and leggings, come the warm weather, I do feel more confident having smooth legs when I’m letting my flesh out in the wild. So, even though this is the option that makes most sense, I did want to find something that lets me get smooth when the mood strikes.

Waxing?

Now I know some of you are waxing devotees. And kudos to you. But I had my eyebrows waxed ONCE. And that was the smallest bit of waxing you can get done. And I have sworn never to let that wax wielding sadist get near me again.

How you brave wax fans ever cope with getting your pubes ripped I will never know. But that’s another conversation for another day.

Hair Removal Cream

Hair removal cream works by breaking down the hair’s protein structure, which is then easily wiped away. I’ve had really good results in the past using this stuff. It’s painless, easy, and does a good job. However, it can be irritating if your skin is sensitive and it’s not a cheap option. Plus it’s messy, and I’ve got enough mess in my life without adding more to it. So I’ve scratched that one off the list.

…Sanding?

Okay, hear me out. I know this sounds crazy. “Jude, I’m not a piece of furniture,” I hear you cry. However, I kid thee not.

I tried out the Accessotech Exfoliating Hair Removal Pads, which is just a fancy name for leg sander, and it works!

Best anti oxidants, vitamins and minerals

You get a larger pad, for legs and body hair, and a smaller pad for facial hair, and they come with 40 sticky backed fine grain sanding papers to stick on. When you’ve stuck your paper onto your pad, just move it slowly and gently in circular motions over your legs.

It’s a bit weird because you make what I can only describe as skin dust as you’re exfoliating your skin while you gently break down and remove the hairs, so it kind of seems gross, but you shed skin all the time so don’t worry about it. When you’re done, just rub some moisturiser into your legs and voila! Smooth!

For me it has been completely pain free, but I imagine if you press to hard or scrub at yourself you could end up giving yourself a sore spot. However, as a clumsy person, this is amazing. No cutting myself, no mess, and really cost effective. I am absolutely delighted.

The only downside is that it takes a bit longer than using a razor, but I get so little time to myself that I am fine with giving myself a couple of extra minutes doing this. Plus, it’s worth it not to need yet another plaster because I’ve gained yet another wound.

 Conclusion

I hope this has been helpful! If you’re like me and always end up with nicks and cuts shaving your legs, then this could be exactly what you’re looking for. I’m also confident that when my daughters decide they want to start shaving their legs that I can let them do this and not worry they’ll hurt themselves.
