On the JJ Barnes Blog, knowing you matter and loving yourself are essential for your mental health, so if you’re ready to start putting effort into yourself, this advice should help you give yourself the time and attention you deserve.

Looking after yourself and putting effort to yourself is important for your overall self confidence. The amount of people who don’t do this is actually quite sad, because it means that so many of us don’t think that we’re worth putting effort into and this is simply not the case. We are all worth taking care of properly, and that’s what we’re here to talk about.

In this article, we’re going to be taking a look at a whole load of things that you can do if you’re ready to start putting effort into yourself again. Hopefully, by the time a few weeks have passed, you will be feeling better in and of yourself. So, how can you do this? We’re glad that you asked.

Sorting Out Your Career

It’s important that you sort out your career. If you’re not happy with where your career is at the moment, then you need to put some effort into changing it. We understand that it’s a lot of work, and we understand that it’s scary to try out new things, but that doesn’t mean that you can avoid it forever. Do you want to wake up every single morning and dread having to go to work? Or, do you want to get into work and each day feel as though you’re doing the same things all of the time? No, you don’t, because that’s boring and nobody wants a boring life.

We all spend too much time at work to be miserable while we’re there, and that’s why this needs sorting. If you don’t feel as though you can progress any further in the company that you’re working for now, then try applying to different ones. See if you can progress somewhere else when you’re stuck at the moment.

Or, it might even be the case that the career you thought you wanted isn’t for you anymore. It happens more than you might think, and it’s okay to start again. Go back to the beginning, find something else that you love, and then you can go from there. It’s going to be a lot of effort for you to put in, but as long as you’re determined, you’ll get there.

Skincare Routine

The next thing that we want to talk about is a skincare routine. Are you someone who takes care of your skin properly, or are you someone who washes their face with soap and calls it good? While you might not see anything wrong with this right now, eventually the impacts of this will start to show on your skin and you will not like this.

Before you can buy any products and get started though, you need to determine what skin type you have. For most people they either have dry skin, sensitive skin, oily skin, or combination skin. Different products are targeted towards different types of skin, which is why you need to ensure that you have the right one for your specific skin.

Once you know what type of skin you have, you need to get started on figuring out what products you should be using, which order they should be used in, and committing to doing this regularly. Your skin will thank you, it will look better than ever, and you will feel better for it.

Changing Your Diet For The Better

Now we’re going to look at your diet, and some people find this really hard to talk about. If you find this too difficult and you would rather skip ahead, feel free to do so. But, your diet is so important to looking after yourself, and you really should be putting the effort in to balance it as much as possible. This is not to say that you cannot treat yourself on a regular basis but you need to be controlling this so that it’s not an everyday occurrence.

It’s too easy to get your diet wrong, so you have to put some conscious effort into it in order to get it right. For example, you should be ensuring that there is always fruits or vegetables on your plate when you’re having a meal. Try to swap out using loads of oil with something else, or at least reducing the amount that you’re using. It’s simple swaps like this that will help you with the transition from a poor diet to a better diet.

Understanding Your Feelings

Too many people push down their feelings, ignore them, and don’t want to acknowledge them. The issue here is that you’re going to send your mental health on a sharp downward decline, and this is not ideal. If you continue to ignore it from there, you’re only going to open yourself up to more issues, which we can promise is the very last thing that you need.

Your mental health is just as important as your physical health, and you have to take care of it with the same amount of dedication.

Take Up A New Hobby

Something else you can do is something for yourself, which you may not be able to do often. Finding a new hobby can make a world of difference to your mental health, especially if you often find yourself sitting down doing nothing all day. There are plenty of hobbies out there, it is just about finding which ones you will enjoy. This could be anything from playing solitaire to singing in a choir.

Sort Out Your Finances

Are you someone who likes to throw money at things you don’t really need? If you don’t monitor your finances then you can quickly run out of money each month before you have paid for all the necessary things. One thing you need to do is sort out your finances and begin paying off any debts that you might have. This is one way to get back on track with your finances, although sometimes it can seem impossible. It can help to focus on one thing at a time, for instance making sure your important bills are always paid on time. This includes things like your rent, gas and electric, and ensuring there is food in your fridge.

If you need help with your finances then the good news is, there is professional help out there. You need to figure out where you want to start and then go from there, for example if you want to sort out your debts then you need to seek debt help. They will advise you on the best solution to clear these in the fastest time.

Make Time For The People You Love

Finally, think about how much time you are spending with the people you love. It can be tempting to avoid people and simply stay at home all the time. This won’t be good for anyone, including you. Life can sometimes be busy and get in the way of the things you want to do, especially if you work long hours and don’t get time to yourself.

Try and arrange something to see them regularly, this could be heading over for dinner or even going out shopping with them. There are always means of seeing those you love, even if you need to take the odd day off here and there.

So hopefully you now have a greater understanding of how you can start putting effort into yourself. If you go a while without taking care of yourself then this can quickly become the norm, but it doesn’t have to. Making small changes over time will be much better for you than doing nothing at all.
